Racing Hondas Championship rounds 1 & 2 Anglesey, Coastal and International Layout

Friday

Friday testing both the coastal and international layouts of the Anglesey Circuit, a lot of track time in slippery conditions in the morning and dry into the afternoon allowed me to get into a groove and dial the set up in for the weekend, I really enjoyed learning the track as I haven’t driven it before.

Saturday

Saturday started with a free practice session , I stayed out for most of the session and bagged p1 in class giving me confidence going into qualifying.

I was first out for qualifying and got a couple of laps in before the red flag came out but,  I was able to get to the front of the line to finish the remaining part of the session.  I was in p1 until the final lap where Alfie pipped my lap by just a tenth of a second meaning I would start the first race in p2.

Race One

Race one started and I had a decent start overtaking some A class a cars and trying to catch Alfie in the lead I was also struggling with my brakes and pad knock off this caused me to loose 2 positions, despite this and another moment, I carried on and on the final laps one of the cars in front of me developed a problem causing them to drop back, so I regained the final place on the podium where I would finish.

Race Two

Race 2 was a lot better starting on pole, as I had the fastest lap in class from the first race.  I had an okay start but Alfie managed to get past and then I had to avoid a spinning car which left me a couple seconds behind, the rest of the race I was trying to catch but the pace between me and my teammate being so close meant that I wasn’t able to get close enough to make a move and we finished 1-2 for the team!

Sunday

Sunday, international layout, there was no free practice meaning we had a longer quali but on my 4th lap the pad knock off problems returned and I had to spin the car in the grass to avoid hitting the Barrier and got stuck ending my qualifying prematurely.

Race Three

Race 3,  I had to start p16 overall,  7th in class and on the first lap I made up 7 positions and was up to  p3 in class, a good battle from here until the end of the race between myself Tommy, Adam and Nick with Alfie not too far up the road. A really enjoyable clean race but Anglesey not being the easiest track to pass at I wasn’t able to make a move for second and I finished p3.

Race Four

Race 4 I started p2 in class having great start fighting for the lead until I bogged down on the exit of the hairpin and dropped to p3 and at the 3rd corner. P1 lost it on his cold tyres I had to check up to avoid, meaning  Alfie got a 2 second lead from here, much like race 2 I tried to catch up and I got to 8 tenths behind but being so close on pace and us two performing well with our cars, we settled for the second 1-2 for the team over the weekend.

Summary

Overall a very fun and  busy learning filled weekend and with great results returning to the Jeakins team,  I’m really happy to be back racing for a full season, my aims for the season is to get top 3 in class B championship and I believe I can do this. As always a massive thank you to the team, Tegiwa and the championship for putting on a great even and to all my sponsors and supporters who allow me to compete!
