Oulton Park Civic Cup Report
Friday testing was really positive quickly, I found myself acclimatising to to the island layout of Oulton. This is definitely down to me having Mark Wright In the car instructing for a session.
A couple of sessions and set up changes later and I was right on pace.
Saturday was the only day of action, as we were on track during the Tunerfest North show, so plenty of spectators at the track
Qualifying was really good despite a moment on my first quick lap, I managed to set a lap of 1:39.4 which was good enough for pole position by over 4 tenths of a second.
I came into the pits early which was the plan from the start to preserve as much tyres and brakes, I then got sent back to the paddock when I was meant to go to parc ferme, an honest mistake from the team, but after a complaint and a meeting with the clerk of the course, I was served a penalty, this being to start from the back of the grid, and a 10 second penalty.
A Marshall came and found me and explained how the penalty would play out, the 10 seconds would start from the moment the last car on the grid moves away!
Race 1 I had lots of work to do from the off, but a 3 laps in a red flag came out after a massive crash, glad everyone involved was ok. The race was not restarted. So I finished in 4th.
Race 2 I started in pole as it was a reverse grid, I got a good start and immediately overtook a cup car, which I was then able to manage the gap behind, it was a bonus Dave and Alfie were squabbling for 2nd and 3rd place for the first few laps which gave me a nice lead, I kept it on the track managed my tyres and brakes well to get my first lights to flag win.
As always thank you to all the Jeakins Race Prep, my team mate Alfie, who gave me some good battles on race 2, my sponsors, my family for coming to watch and of course the Marshalls, who without them we wouldn’t be able to race at all, and everyone who supports me and all the members of club #28
