Oulton Park - Racing Hondas Championship Report

Turned up to Oulton Park for the first time in 2 years for rounds 9 and 10 of The Racing Hondas Championship.

It was the hottest day of 2024 so far, and after a long journey in the Motorhome, we went straight out for a moonlit track walk, the track had new tarmac in places since I had last driven round it. We were racing on the long layout (the international) it is 2.69 miles long with 17 corners.

Free practice was a chance for me to reacquaint myself with the track and to get a good feel for the car after being repaired from the incident at Brands. Car felt good, was exciting to be back on the track.

Qualifying was really close in class B the top 6 were all within 3 tenths of each other.

I was starting p5.

Race One

After a good start I was challenging the cars ahead to get towards the podium places, when, I was a little optimistic and a car with an issue was slowing down in-front. I didn’t anticipate this and had to take to the bumpy grass on the inside of shell oils, which was less than ideal and subsequently knocked my tracking out and I also lost a few positions, after struggling with the car for the rest of the race I finished p8.

Race Two

The second race wasn’t much better for me,  but it was a lot less chaotic. A issue with a sensor meant my car wasn’t running 100% and this was loosing me 2 seconds a lap compared to earlier in the day, however, with Oulton Park being a track that’s quite hard to overtake I managed to hold position and finish p6.

Overall a less than ideal weekend really struggling with the rear brakes locking up, and a couple of mistakes from me but some misfortune for others means,  I am sitting just 1 point behind p3 in the championship with 3 weekends to go.

A top 3 is still definitely in reach for the end of the season.

Massive thanks to @alfie.jeakins.754 and @jeakinsracepreparation for getting the car back out after Brands and we’ll work together to get the team back to the top!

As always a massive thank you to the team at Tegiwa and The Racing Hondas Championship for putting on a great event and to all my sponsors and supporters in Club #28 who allow me to compete! I couldn’t do it without you!
